Home security systems
Which options are right for you?
There are many options on the market for home security buyers, ranging from entire integrated systems that will turn your house into the residential equivalent of Fort Knox , to simple devices like door alarms. How far you go with your system should be based on a few factors, and these are described below.
First is the area you live in. While no house is safe from crime, it's been proven that the majority of crime takes place in lower income areas, or areas of a city in very close proximity to these neighbourhoods. If you live in an area well removed from such, your home should be safer. For homes in these areas, a simpler system may suffice, such a simple door alarm, or motion detectors near entryways.
If you live in a low income, higher crime area, you may be in the market for a total home security system. This would include sensors around any conceivable entry point, be it doors, windows, your garage, etc. Further sensors would be placed inside the house to pick up on anything amiss inside, should someone manage to get through the perimeter defences. These could include motion detectors, heat detectors and sound detectors. Further, while simple alarms would typically scare the criminal off, leaving them free to strike at someone else, these full systems can have 24/7 monitoring support by a security company. This increases the likelihood of any criminals being apprehended, as authorities are routinely dispatched to the scenes of emergency alerts within minutes.
Scare off those who would bring you harm
For those who aren't satisfied with just scaring the criminal off, or having them captured at a later date, but would rather have the criminal not even consider their house, you need one of the many great deterrent security products. One of these is simple yard signs or decals for windows and doors, provided by the security company you deal with, or bought you products from. The other is having a security camera installed, probably the greatest deterrent to crime there is.
You may already own one of the best security products on the market.
While not an actual home security product, another great deterrent against crime is something you may already own. A dog. While getting caught on tape in the act of committing a crime may be embarrassing, being attacked by a dog is even worse. Most criminals will not go anywhere near a house with a dog, or a house that displays a beware of dog sign, and this has been borne out in statistics. So if you've been counting your lucky stars that your house has been safe with or without a security system all these years, perhaps it's Fido or Scruffy that deserves the credit.
Home security system products are now cheaper than ever, and there are viable options for every budget. If you're even a little worried about the safety of your home, don't delay and continue to live in fear. Take control, act, and enjoy true peace of mind today.
